College at it’s Finest

This is directly from a syllabus for one of my online classes regarding our discussions. I added the italics.

G. DISCUSSION POSTING and 80% READING:
1. 10 discussion threads will be posted-This is a two step process. 1) Each student will respond to at least one of the instructor posted discussion questions; 2) You must respond to at least 1 other student’s response.
Points are earned in the following manner: 10 points maximum for completion of both steps between before Sunday at 11:59pm, 6 points maximum if submit after Sunday 11:59pm through Wednesday 11:59pm.

3. 80% Reading: The expectation is for you to read all of your fellow students posted discussion questions to maximize our learning outcome of our semester-You must read at least 80% of your classmate’s postings in the assigned weekly discussion threads. I will measure your participation 2 times throughout the semester using the tracking feature on D2L. 40 points will be awarded for reading at least 80% of all the weekly postings; 0 points will be awarded for reading 79% and below-It’s an “all or nothing” grading policy. D2L enables the instructor to measure students’ progress in the course to include length of time in each area. 80% evaluations will measured approximately one week after the Discussion Question due date to allow you time to read the postings.

OK, that’s all fine and dandy. Here’s my grade and explanation.

0 / 40

Individual Comments:
Did not respond to at least 80% of all DQ original postings.

Am I missing something here? I’m waiting to hear back.

Badgers Season Finale

Posted in Sports on March 8th, 2009 by Administrator

The Badgers Men’s Hockey team beat North Dakota 4-1 last night at the Kohl Center to end the regular season. It also just happened to be my first game in a suite, and, forgive me, it was sweet. I’ve always been the kind of fan that thought box seats would be nice, but who needs them? If I have a chance to be closer to the action with the rest of the people, I’m going to take it. That was until last night. Now my past idea might still hold true for a Packer game when the suites are at the top of the stadium, but at the Kohl Center, the boxes are at the top of the first level, so you’re still close to the game. We also just happened to have probably one of the two best boxes in the house. These seats aren’t cheap though, as we were told you have to sign a three or five year contract with a cost of about $40,000 a year, plus the tickets, food, and drinks, but we went for free so who cares? That just meant we got some of the best seats in the house with free food and drinks. One drawback was that there were about 20 or so people in there and I only knew three of them, but it was no big deal. I wouldn’t turn down any seat that I’ve had in the past at a Badger game, but I’ll probably be thinking fondly of last night. Oh yeah, the Badgers handled the Sioux.

Let the Waiting Begin

After several months of waiting, I officially get to wait a whole lot longer. Today I received confirmation of my spot on the waiting list for season tickets for the Green Bay Packers. I’m 80,113 on the list, but hey, that’s better than nowhere at all. According to their website, I only have 30 some years to go.

CentSports

Are you a sports fan who would like to bet on your favorite teams, but don’t want to waste your own money? Yeah, me too. Good thing for CentSports, then. At CentSports, you are given 10 cents to start with, and you can bet on any number of sporting events. You can even have your bets increased by sponsors if you look at some banner ads, which isn’t all that difficult (or if your’re like me, you can block the ads so it doesn’t even matter). You can cash out once you get up to $10, or you can just keep going. If you make some bad bets and lose it all, it doesn’t matter, because you are given 10 cents to work with again. It’s fun, and pretty addicting, but I’m not spending my own money, so I let it slide, and so should you.
