This year is the 20th Anniversary of the Madden football games, and gracing the cover this year is Brett Favre of the Green Bay Packers. Favre was pegged for the cover long before the offseason debacle with Green Bay and his subsequent trade to the New York Jets, so he is seen donning his Packer uniform. Because of his trade, however, EA had a roster update available upon going online for the first time, which included among other things, Brett Favre on the Jets. Before the update, Favre was only available on the Packers All-Time team, but could be put on the Free Agent list and signed to any team. EA also has come out with a new cover, which is the same exact thing, only Favre’s wearing a Jets uniform. That would be all fine and dandy, except they haven’t made a new cover for the Wii version of the game. I’m not sure if I’d change it, but I’d at least like the option.
Anyway…the Wii version, Madden NFL 09 All-Play, is designed to allow casual gamers, who may or may not have ever played Madden, to be able to just pick up and play the game. That’s great too, but I don’t care about that feature. I just want to be able to play as the Packers, and systematically destroy the Vikings, which in case you were wondering, is still very possible. Another cool feature is the ability to “Call Your Shot,” which allows you to draw plays at the line of scrimmage, so you can take advantage of the defense at any given time. Playing Madden on Wii is a very different experience than on any other system, and all-in-all, it’s pretty fun once you get the hang of it. Now if they would just come out with my new cover.
