Minnesotans in Wisconsin

Being close to the Minnesota border, a lot of people from the Twin Cities live in Wisconsin.  You usually can tell if they are from the cities for several reasons:

1.  They drive like they are on 494 when they are on a regular Wisconsin highway, i.e. they cut off other drivers, tailgate, and do other things that are totally uneccessary.

2.  They think everyone from Wisconsin is from a small-town and therefore are a hick.  This is funny considering once you get out of the Twin Cities area, Minnesota has just as many small towns that you have never heard of.

3. They constantly refer to "The U" when talking about the U of Minnesota.  This really annoys me because the U of MN is not the only major university in the country, much less the midwest.  Ever heard of U of Wisconsin, U of Michigan?  Which brings up another point.  Saying the U of M could also mean several other schools.  Also, the true "U" is the U of Miami since their logo is the "U".

4. They complain about Wisconsin all the time.  Recently I heard a bunch of girls from the Twin Cities saying how Wisconsin schools are pathetic because they call off school because of snow more than their schools did.  Sorry, we don’t all live in the metro.  Some people actually have to drive from the country to get to school, by the way, do you know what the country is?

Monday Night Football

Posted in Sports on February 9th, 2006 by Administrator

Next season MNF is moving from ABC to ESPN, and the Sunday night game is going to ABC. Apparently the NFL wants to make Sunday night football its big attraction now, which is fine, but they’ve made MNF that attraction for the past 30 some years. A lot of people look forward to watching it and won’t be able to. Oh well.

The new crew was announced yesterday. Mike Tirico is the commentator, and Tony Kornheiser and Joe Theismann are the analysts. Michelle Tofoya and Suzy Kolber are the sideline reporters, but who cares about them? I was listening to the Dan Patrick Show yesterday, and they were talking about whether or not Kornheiser would do a good job. Most of the people thought it was a bad choice. Apparently these people never watched a Sunday Night game. Mike Patrick, Paul MacGuire and Joe Theismann formed quite possibly the worst broadcasting team in history. They just ramble on and half of the time they make incorrect analyisis, only to have it shown to be incorrect a few seconds later by the replay. At least Teismann is better than MacGuire, but trust me, that isn’t saying much.

Commercials

Overall, the Super Bowl commercials were weak. There were some good ones though. The Michelob Ultra commercial where they are playing touch football, and the girl starts talking smack, so the guy comes in and cleans her clock. Ha, that’s where magic comes from. Also theĀ CareerBuilder.com ad where they played off of their stupid monkey idea. I’m pretty sure they’ve overused that, so it was nice that they changed it up a bit. “I think I’ve told you before, but I work with a bunch of monkeys over here.” “Oh, that’s ok. I work with a bunch of jackasses.” Something like that, but it was solid.

Super Bowl

Posted in Sports on February 8th, 2006 by Administrator

The Super Bowl was 2 1/2 days ago, but I don’t care. It seems like a lot of people have been talking about the refs, so I will too. Let’s take a look at two of the calls. First the pass interference against Darrell Jackson. It may not have been the worst interference in the history, but he still pushed off. On the holding call, I’ve heard people say you can’t call that in that situation or on that play. I’m no rocket scientist, but I’m pretty sure when they call holding, they throw the flag practically right after the snap. That means he wasn’t watching the play, he doesn’t know what happened.

Some people say the officiating was a distraction for the Seahawks. It didn’t necessarily affect the outcome, and it wasn’t as if it had no part, but it was a distraction. That’s trash. It probably was a distraction, and that’s probably why they lost. These weren’t horrendous calls, and there were much worse calls in previous playoff games. Get over it and play football. It doesn’t really matter though, because they would’ve lost anyway. Jerramy Stevens played like the bum Joey Porter said he was, and I don’t think Matt Hasselbeck played as grand as they make it sound on ESPN.

Either way, that game was filth. That’s it. It was filth.

Roommates

For those of you who have yet to live with roommates, let me offer you some advice.  When it comes to food, don’t share.  Everyone eat what they buy and don’t touch anything that you didn’t.   Nothing is more irritating than to be sitting there, starving in class all day thinking about what you are going to eat when you get home, except when you get home you find that your roommates have been eating your food and have eaten the last of what you had wanted to eat.  Also, you will probably find yourself buying things more often than your roommates, therefore things aren’t so equal anymore.

Some more advice: wash your own dishes and clean up after yourself.  My roommates are good about this, but I have see and heard about roommates that don’t and how angry their roommates get with them.  Don’t make someone be the mom and have to clean up after everybody.

One more thing: don’t take advantage of your roommates. For example, let’s just say you all have to go to the same place and you have to drive there.  Because of lack of available parking, the person who drove got a ticket.  Since you all benefited from that ride, split up the ticket.  It could just as easily been you who got the ticket, and wouldn’t you want them to help pay?

Living with roommates can be a lot of fun, listen to these suggestions and you can make it even better.
